Purvis Young is an international figure among Outsider artists; his artworks are included in major private and museum collections worldwide. His paintings are descriptions of the artist’s understandings and revelations of a moral vision. Young painted on scrap wood in his Miami inner city neighborhood of Overtown. Viewers are challenged to decipher his portrayal of life on the mean streets, to determine just how something so abstract can seem so real; how something so tenuous can ring so true; how something so anti-aesthetic can be so beautiful.
Our Purvis Young paintings were acquired in the mid 1970s from the artist in his Overtown studio-warehouse.
